The Rev. Janice Desterhaft, the new full-time pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Montpelier, is grateful to be called to an area close to family members: her mother and sister in Illinois, and several nephew and nieces in Michigan. Janice calls herself a “child of America,” since she was born in the East (yes, she’s a Yankee), raised in Iowa (Iowa Hawkeye), and has lived everywhere in the United States except the Northwest. She was ordained at Broadmoor Presbyterian in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She enjoys playing board and card games, especially cribbage; writing and watching movies; singing and writing songs. Her life verse is Nehemiah 8:10, “The joy of the Lord shall be your strength.”
(Periodically we welcome new ministers to the presbytery and these brief vignettes are a way to get to know them a bit more. Next up is Rev Ruth Clendenin, the new pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church in Toledo)
