Synod Assembly members met virtually on May 5, 2026. A wide variety of informative topics of interest to Synod members were covered. Items of particular relevance included: Recent survey results concerning the use of Artificial Intelligence (A-1) within our Synod and its eleven (11) presbyteries
-
- Survey respondents reflected a ‘slightly pessimistic’ attitude toward the use of A-I within our congregations and presbyteries;
- Respondents expressed their desire to be cautious in the use of A-I due to the potential for misuse and abuses;
- Many of the respondents expressed the opinion that A-I was ‘not important’ to use it in church related activities and settings;
- Approximately 50% of the respondents said they do not use A-I at all.
- There was some interest expressed in continuing education opportunities concerning A-I particularly as it related to ethical concerns regarding its use.
- The suggestion was put forward that Synod consider doing virtual trainings on A-I with at least one in person meeting being held within each presbytery on the subject of A-I.
The Associate Synod Executive made a presentation on the topic of programming on Racial/Ethnic Justice. She emphasized that this topic is broader than the traditional concept of relationships between Blacks and Whites. She stressed the need for better attendance and greater participation when events on this topic are sponsored by the Synod.
