The Rev. Alton J. Myers, age 90, died Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Defiance, Ohio. Ralph was an honorably retired minister member of Maumee Valley Presbytery.
Alton was ordained by Scioto Valley Presbytery on April 17, 1977 after graduating from Dubuque University with a Masters in Theology. Alton was a second career pastor, having taught as a Math and Sciences teacher at Payne and Antwerp Schools, earlier receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Defiance College and a Master’s from Bowling Green State University. His career in ministry spanned several churches in Ohio and Indiana. After retiring from United Presbyterian Church in Neoga, Illinois, Alton came back to Maumee Valley in 1997 to help care for his sister, who had died circa 2017.
While serving Maumee Valley in retirement, Alton served on the Justice Committee. He was an avid runner and also a published author, writing historical fiction regarding the Thirty-Year religious war in Europe.
Alton is survived by his cousins Rachel Kulp of Gentry, Arkansas, Elizabeth Morris of Lebanon, Ohio, and Lewis Myers of Defiance.
