In Memoriam – Rev. David Cook Young

The Rev. David Cook Young, age 89, died Thursday, July 17, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  David was an honorably retired minister member of Maumee Valley Presbytery.

David was ordained by Hudson River Presbytery on June 24, 1962 after graduating from Union Theological Seminary in New York, NY with a Masters of Divinity, and Bowdoin College (Brunswick, Maine), and served Grahams United Presbyterian Church in Pine Bush NY and Hopewell in Thompson Ridge NY as pastor.  He remained a New Yorker at heart, despite shifting his ministry to Ohio, serving Second Presbyterian Church in Newark, Ohio as Associate Pastor, and then coming to Maumee Valley Presbytery.  Here he served Fairgreen Presbyterian Church for 22 years (1969-1992), and Bowling Green Presbyterian Church (1992-2006).  In retirement he served FPC Perrysburg as Temporary Supply Pastor.  In retirement he and his wife Marcia moved to Indianapolis to be closer to family. A lover of the Reformed tradition, David poured his love into Maumee Valley Presbytery, serving as Moderator in 1989-90, the chair of the Ministerial Relations Committee (COM/Leadership), member of countless committees including the Committee on Administration, Personnel, Planning, and Justice Ministry.  His commitment to interfaith and ecumenical work, mental health, as well as social justice initiatives had him busy throughout the years as well, namely serving as a member (and chair) of the Toledo Campus Ministry from 1973-1985, as president of the Kiwanis Club, and chair of the Human Relations Committee of Bowling Green, OH. 

David is survived by beloved wife Marcia, whom he had at his side when he died on their 60th wedding anniversary, daughters Jennifer and Jessica, and numerous grandchildren and others.There will be a Service of Witness to the Resurrection at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday, August 15, at 12:00 noon.  Visitation at the church will begin at 11am.
