Are you looking to deepen your prayer life or your relationship to God? Spiritual Direction may be for you.
Recently three of us, Cathy Johnson-Paine, Tom Polker, and myself, began our Spiritual Director Practicum with Sr. Nancy Brousseau, a Dominican Sister out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is a time in our development as Directors/Companions to get more practice. So a couple of us are looking for potential directees and wanted to reach out to everyone to let you know of this opportunity. Because we are in a process of learning, this is offered free at this time. Please contact Tom Polker at 419-466-9877 if you feel led to explore Spiritual Direction with Tom or Cathy.
Spiritual direction is “help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship.” (William A. Barry and William J. Connolly, The Practice of Spiritual Direction). This relationship in Spiritual Direction (also called Spiritual Companioning) is a conversational one in which one Christian – who has been or is being trained in the “art” of Spiritual direction – serves as a companion to another Christian on the journey of faith, enabling and encouraging that person to pay attention, respond, grow, and live out what they are hearing and experiencing in their relationship with God.
