The Rev. Dr. Stanley David Walters, age 92, died Tuesday March 5, 2024 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.  Stan was a minister of the Presbyterian Church of Canada, and spent much of his later years living and serving in Maumee Valley Presbytery.  Trained at Greenville College (BA) and Asbury Theological Seminary (BD), Stan was ordained into the Free Methodist Church of North America.  His thirst for knowledge led him to Princeton Theological Seminary receiving a Master of Theology in 1957, and Yale University earning his Ph.D. in Ancient Near Eastern Languages (1961).  Stan served as a minister and educator his whole life, beginning his teaching career at Greenville College (IL), then Central Michigan University where he helped set up the Department of Religion, and as Professor at Tyndale University College (Toronto, Canada), in addition to teaching graduate instruction as Professor of Old Testament at Knox College, University of Toronto in their doctoral program.  He is the author and editor of several books and numerous articles and papers.

After becoming a Presbyterian, and a member of Lake Huron Presbytery, Stan transferred to the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1976, the Presbytery of East Toronto, where he was a minister member until his death.  In addition to his academic pursuits, Stan answered the call to pastoral ministry by serving First Presbyterian Church in Carlyle, IL, the Presbyterian Church of Canada General Assembly’s Chair of Old Testament, Knox College, University of Toronto, as pastor of Rosedale Presbyterian Church, Toronto (1992-2001), and after moving to Maumee Valley as interim pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Bucyrus, Ohio (2001-2004), interim at FPC Fostoria (2015-2017), as well as Parish Assistant at First Presbyterian Church in Upper Sandusky.  Throughout his illustrious teaching career, Stan was committed not just to his university students, but to fellow faculty, and to Maumee Valley Presbytery, providing instruction in the Bible and the Christan faith as we implemented lay training programs.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, says the Spirit.  They will rest from their labors, and their deeds follow them.
